Free roller-and-baller sports game

Roller Champions is a free-to-play, skill-based, team PvP sports game developed by Ubisoft, wherein you take the ball, make a lap around the oval arena while maintaining team possession, and score. It’s a cross between roller derby and rollerball, and set in a funky futuristic 2029, Roller Champions is the latest sports league craze around.

Get the ball

The story of Roller Champions is simple—you’re an up-and-coming player of the sport, and you have to climb up the ranks by gaining more fans in your matches and winning in the various arenas. It’s in online multiplayer, and you and your teammates face three other players every time to win five points and claim victory. You need to work with your team to complete a lap and get a ball in because anyone can tackle the opponents to steal the ball or stop them from playing for a few seconds. If you lose the ball at any time, your lap counter resets and you must do it again.

What makes this even more challenging is that you can make laps of more than one to multiply your score when you finally shoot the ball—two laps net you three points, while three give you five. It’s then a tempting challenge to try completing three risky laps for that guaranteed win of five points. Whatever your strategy, you must coordinate well with your team to hold onto the ball for as long as possible.

Roller skates vs. car tires

Roller Champions had been quickly compared to Rocket League when it was unveiled. Both games have almost-similar premises—Roller Champions is roller-skating as you play basketball in a way, while Rocket League is scoring a soccer goal with a rocket-boosted car. However, there are more fundamental differences apart from skates and hoops and cars and goals. Rocket League has four players for each team instead. It has several different modes, such as a hockey game or a basketball game. You must move over marked spaces on the map for a speed boost. Driving the car with Rocket League’s overly fast physics engine is also challenging to pick up in a few minutes.

However, Ubisoft’s game is charming in its own right. Despite the smaller number of players, the equally small size of this game’s arenas makes for challenging PVP matches. You need to make yourself faster with the sloping walls around you manually. Its controls are beginner friendly. Plus, it’s a free-to-play game.

Roller Champions x Jet Set Radio

Ubisoft's PvP game, Roller Champions, has exciting news to share as they have recently announced the inclusion of Jet Set Radio. This upcoming event update will bring back beloved characters Gum and Beat and introduce a brand new Jet Set Park set in the vibrant location of Tokyo-to for players to explore and enjoy.

Let’s roll out

Overall, Roller Champions is a fun sports game with an insanely-crazy set-up. Mixing two distinctive games and coloring it with a cool futuristic look, this is a fast-paced jam you can have fun with. As always with online multiplayer, however, you’ll either get great or lame teammates, but with proper teamwork, you can be a star yourself. Roller Champions can stand alone in the big leagues, and so can you.
